It depends partly on your level and if you ski or board.

North end of the lake has a better highway (I-80):

* Northstar to ski well, but it is popular with surfers because it has flat sections between the cuts. Semi-Express lifts. It is heard by the same company that Sierra-at-Tahoe on the south end of the lake and some of the more tickets in a day's work in both places.

* Sugar is good for most skiers and snowboarders. Semi-Express lifts. As a rule, has some big jumps, depending on snowfall. In general, you can offer in grocery stores in Northern California, etc.

* Donner Ski Ranch is a family business, experience, the best for beginners.

* Diamond Peak is terrible anyway.

Highway 50 is to the southern tip of the lake, 2-track and can be very slow at the wrong time. However, the stations are very close to the border of the state, so that gives the casinos and nightclubs.

* Sierra-at-Tahoe. Northstar same company. Decent tennis. Semi-Express lifts. Very popular with surfers.Better than average, and lessons for beginners, but also runs many intermediate tracks. The best resources to go after the bad weather due to its accommodation of wind direction.

* Celeste. Enormously half and half in CA NV - her. The cable car takes you to the casinos. OK for beginners, but in reality for the intermediate and advanced skiers and snowboarders. Most experts do not race until late in the season. Semi-Express elevators, but the wind is sometimes too close to high buildings. It tends to be more expensive.

I like the stations of the south coast. I'm not very often on the North Shore. On the south coast, I recommend Sunrise Ski (right on Highway 50 near the truck inspections Myers), if you just want a normal gait. Their prices are much better than in the complex. I recommend that locks to the team, because I had stolen my skis more than once in more than one station to make. I was previously in the S. American Village Lake Tahoe. It is old and funky, but does the job. Sometimes you can to reach agreement on casino-hotels ... I think MontBleu and HarrAHS is best. Horizon is horrible. When you are ready to sell a timeshare company can sometimes take a few free nights in an elegant apartment time shares of the guests ... Make sure you can say no to a vendor out.

Well, if you are looking for a cheap place to stay, I would check craigslist, or you make a booking at the Best Western. I recommend North Star. The prices are quite expensive though for a normal day. I think that skiing is cheaper Boreal, which is more in Sacramento, and about 15 minutes from Truckee Tahoe. Please let me know if you have any questions, I lived in the Truckee area for 20 years to learn a lot about the region.
